Noontime Notions – Henry and His Wives

July 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Noontime Notions series continues.  The program will begin at noon in the Rogow Room at the Transylvania County Library. Noontime Notions programs feature authors, performers, and presenters providing engaging notions for consideration, enjoyment, and discovery.   The program is made possible by the Friends of the Library and will last approximately one hour.

Paula Withrow will provide insight into the women who played an incredible role in creating the person that became Henry VIII. His grandmothers and his mother were very influential. But it was the women who became his wives; who manipulated, angered, disappointed and even nursed him. These six women with diverse backgrounds, goals and powers will be featured. In less than an hour we will see who they were, what they influenced and what the results were.

Paula V. Withrow has a Master’s Degree in History from Colorado State University. Her research has been wide ranging from 18th Dynasty Egypt to First Ladies 0and the Media. The Tudor era in history and the impact that Henry VIII made in England and globally – influenced so heavily by the women in his life – is of special interest. She has instructed courses in history in community colleges, UNCA OLLI, libraries and Continued Care facilities since 2001.
