Won’t you be a FRIEND?
How Friends Support the Library
The mission of the Friends of the Library is to enhance and support library services by underwriting interesting and entertaining programs throughout the year – from children’s summer reading and local history programs, to music concerts and special bag lunch events. Money raised by the Friends enriches our community in many ways.
A significant portion of the funds raised by the Friends is generated through sales at The Second Story Book Store (currently closed) and during the group’s Annual Book Sale each October (2020 sale has been cancelled). Additionally, the Friends sell books on Amazon. Your book donations make these possible. These income streams bring in the money needed to fund all library programs for all ages.
The Friends are currently accepting donations of books and other material on Mondays from 10-2 at the Library. This will continue through October 2020 and resume after the first of the new year (date TBA).
Another very important source of funding comes from the dollars raised through Friends of the Library membership dues. Yearly dues are $15.00. Members also receive the group’s bi-monthly newsletter, At the Library, that is loaded with information about up-coming events and includes full calendars of special programs for kids, teens and adults. Joining the Friends organization is a great way to show your support for the Transylvania County Library through your membership contribution. It’s also an excellent opportunity to join the happy ranks of the many volunteers who support the Friends mission.
