  4. Have a genuine interest in serving your Library and community.

As a volunteer, you’re contributing to our goals in the community.  While at the Library, you’re representing TCL and Transylvania County.  As such, please abide by the following basic rules of conduct:

  1. Remain respectful of Library patrons and staff.
  2. Remain free of drugs and alcohol.
  3. Maintain patron and library confidentiality.
  4. Record the hours you work.
  5. Wear a name tag if you’re working with or around the public.
  6. Let your supervisor know if you can’t make it in to your regularly scheduled shift.
  • Fill out an application and return it to the Circulation desk or by email.
  • After reviewing your application, we’ll run a background check and contact your references.
  • Accepted volunteers will be contacted to set up a meeting time and placed in accordance with current needs and interests of the Library.
  • Please note: At times we may not be able to immediately place new volunteers due to low-turnover within our current team of volunteers (we love them!). If we can’t find a position for you at the time you apply, please check back soon and thank you for your interest in helping out the Library.

Individuals 14 years of age or older are invited to participate in our Adopt-A-Shelf volunteer program.

By “adopting” library shelves, volunteers will “read” the shelves by scanning the spine labels, place materials in the correct order, pull books to the front of the shelves, and keep adopted areas tidy by dusting those hard-to-reach spots.  This is a great opportunity for families, social groups, or individuals to take part in the upkeep of your library.

Training will be provided.  Please be willing to commit to at least a 3-month “adoption period,” for at least 2 hours per month.
