A concert by Musicke Antiqua.
This years program menu, a musical excursion into the Medieval/Renaissance banquet hall, includes six musical sets, similar to what members of King Arthurs Court might have heard while enjoying a typical 6-course New Years Feast. Musicke Antiqua will serve up Christmas music from Medieval to Modern times, with a few spicy holiday carols, and tidbits of information about early holiday meals between each musical set. Small and large ensembles of musicians, in costume will play recorders of all sizes, Violas da Gamba strings, Buzzies, Gemshorn, Glockenspiel, Baroque flute, and percussion). Musicke Antiqua seeks to enrich cultural life through exciting, historically informed live performances and educational programs designed to inspire appreciation of early music and support its study. Beginning as a recorder trio in Brevard, NC, in 2000, Musicke Antiqua now includes 13 members from Asheville, Brevard, Columbus, Hendersonville, Pisgah Forest, Swannanoa, Tryon and Weaverville. Members include professional musicians & retired educators of music, computer science, language, journalism, sociology, botany, and mathematics; some come from the fields of psychology, cartography, photography, and physical therapy.
