The program will begin with a screening of the 2002 Bonesteel Films production, “The Mystery of George Masa” (approximately 1 1/2 hours), followed by a discussion with Angelyn Whitmeyer, creator of the George Masa Photo Database.
George Masa was a WNC photographer who immigrated to Asheville from Japan in 1915. His photos left a legacy that helped to document and led to the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Angelyn Whitmeyer is a researcher who compiled the George Masa Photo Database collection of his photos after realizing how many had been “lost” or unidentified.
