The Seed Library is a collection of seeds that you can take from to plant and grow at home. You’ll see different seeds available at different times, so check in frequently to see what’s available. The Seed Library is located on the first floor of the Library near the big yellow wall.
Gardening is fun! We want everyone to get to try growing their own food or flowers. Saving and sharing seeds also helps preserve plant diversity and food traditions.
There is no formal checkout process. Take a look at the collection and find some seeds you’d like to grow. Keep in mind that the seed library is a shared community resource, so please only take what you intend to grow. Take pictures and tag us on social media with #TransylvaniaSeedLibrary.
Not unless you want to! We appreciate and accept seed donations, but this seed library is first and foremost a hands-on educational resource.
Yes, please! If you’d like to donate seeds, please take a blank donation form and fill it out as completely as you can. Attach the form to your seed packet with a paper clip and place it in the donation bin at the Seed Library.
This year (2024), we’ve been fortunate to receive seeds donated by Eden Brothers and Sow True Seed. We also have seeds that have been donated by community members.
We have lots of gardening books that can help you get started. Just ask a staff member and we’ll help you find what you need. Transylvania County Cooperative Extension also offers TONS of helpful information about starting a garden. Visit their website for tips, tricks and growing advice.
