Start @ Home: North Carolina Virtual Family History Fair
The North Carolina Government and Heritage Library and the State Archives of North Carolina are taking the Family History Fair on the road through live streaming on Saturday, November 4 from 10:00-2:00. The Local History Room at the Transylvania County Library will show these presentations on the 70” smart tv on the 2nd floor.
Each of the four sessions focuses on local collections and resources for local and family history research. Local records, libraries, and archives provide a treasure trove of information to Start @ Home when researching family genealogy or local history. The presentations will be:
10:00 am “Local Collection and Records for Family and Local History” covers using government records, county abstracts, family histories, and other resources held in state repositories.
11:00 am “Newspapers and Finding Treasures” discusses accessing both historical and current North Carolina newspapers which offer a picture of the local community in real time.
12:00 pm “DigitalNC for Family and Local History Research” presents information on the city directories, school annuals, and other local level publications from local libraries, museums, and historical societies made available online through DigitalNC.
1:00 pm “Genealogy of a House” addresses various resources to uncover the genealogy of a house.
Stop by for one or more session and learn more about resources available through the Local History Room at the Transylvania County Library, DigitalNC, the North Carolina Government and Heritage Library, and the State Archives of North Carolina.
