Fireflies, Glow-worms, and Lightning Bugs

August 1 @ 11:00 pm - August 2 @ 12:00 am

Blue ghost fireflies have captured the attention of locals and visitors alike over the past few years. Their popularity brings hundreds to areas like DuPont State Forest each May. But they aren’t the only fireflies inhabiting the area.

On Tuesday, August 1 at 7:00 pm Lynn Faust will present “Fireflies, Glow-worms, and Lightning Bugs” in the Transylvania County Library Rogow Room. Faust is a well-known expert on fireflies who played a major role in the first discovery of synchronous fireflies in North America in 1994. She has conducted extensive studies of blue ghost fireflies in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

“Fireflies, Glow-worms, and Lightning Bugs” is also the title of Faust’s recently published field guide. Highland Books will have copies available for purchase at the event and Faust will happily sign them following the presentation.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Friends of DuPont Forest. Light Refreshment will be provided. For additional information contact Marcy at the Transylvania County Library, 884-1820 or [email protected].
