Bag Lunch Arts – Hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains

September 17 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

In North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, the landscape is more than a scenic backdrop, it literally shapes the culture. Every trail has a story. With slides and stories, Danny (Danielle) Bernstein will discuss the unique history of specific trails and hiking areas in our mountains. We’ll meet Moses H. Cone and George Masa, climb Chimney Rock, visit the elk in the Smokies, trek the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, hike in the three Pisgah Districts – and much more. Highland Books will have copies of her books available for sale and signing following the program.
Danny is a hiker, hike leader, and outdoor writer. She’s completed the Appalachian Trail, all the trails in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the South beyond 6000, and the Mountains-to-Sea Trail across North Carolina and three Caminos de Santiago. Currently, she leads hikes for Carolina Mountain Club, Friends of the Smokies, and the Asheville Camino group. She’s written four outdoor books. In her previous life, she was in computer science, way before computers were cool, first as a software developer, then as a professor of computer science. Danny’s mission is to get people out of their cars, into the woods and hiking.
