CANCELLED – Artistic Afternoons in April

To support public health and help the slow the spread of Covid-19 (coronavirus), this program has been cancelled.

The Transylvania County Library is offering an exploration of art for youth during the month of April. The programs are free, but registration is required for each program. Call us at 884-3151 ext. 3 or stop by the Youth Services desk to sign up NOW as space is limited!

Tuesday April 7, 2020 – 4pm-5:15pm – Origami Tech with Laura Gardner (Grades 6-12)

Learn origami techniques combined with basic circuitry and LED lights to create moving and blinking projects.

Tuesday April 14, 2020 – 3:45pm-5:15pm – Introduction to Weaving with Kelly McBride (Grades 4-8)

Learn the basics of weaving in this beginner class. We’ll learn weaving vocabulary, look at examples of different kinds of weaving, and make our own woven wall hangings.

Tuesday April 21, 2020 – 4pm-5pm – Putting the “A” in STEAM – Art, led by Zaniac Learning (Grades K-5)

Are you creative? Did you know that there are science concepts embedded in your artwork? How does science affect an artist’s work? Join us as we use the scientific method and hands on activities to make connections between art and science.

Tuesday April 28, 2020 – 4pm-5pm – Ukulele Exploration with Laura Gardner and Heather Reedy (4 years to 5th grade*)

*Kids in 1st grade and below will need a parent to stay during the program.
Learn the basics of how to play the ukulele in this beginner class. We’ll learn how to tune, read a chord chart, strum, and play a few tunes. No experience is necessary and we have ukuleles to borrow for this workshop. If you have your own ukulele that you will bring, please let us know.
