Presenter bio:
Yvonne McCall-Dickson has been a historian for over forty years and has spent many years studying the Cherokee, learning the language, researching historical documents, and collecting artifacts. In 2004, Yvonne was honored to participate in the Green Corn Ceremony in Robbinsville, NC.
Yvonne collaborated with Archaeologist Scott Ashcraft in 2012 researching and conducting field work on the Cherokee surrounding Transylvania County, NC. In 2013, Scott and Yvonne co-authored a paper discussing the historical significance of the Cherokee around Courthouse Creek. Their work was instrumental in diverting the path of a logging operation in Transylvania County which would have disturbed sacred Cherokee ground, and was honored by the Cherokee in October of that year at an archaeological conference.
Yvonne has been an Instructor at Blue Ridge Community College teaching Cherokee Heritage, Transylvania County History, and has authored the Images of America series book on Transylvania County.
