DESCRIPTION:“The Cherokee People and Their Culture” \nWith historian and author Yvonne McCall-Dickson \nThursday\, November 5\, 6-7 pm \nHistorian\, author\, and seventh-generation Transylvania County native Yvonne McCall-Dickson will share her extensive knowledge of the Cherokee people and their culture that she has gained from over 40 years of living experience and study. Learn about the seven clans\, social structure\, sacred legends\, and more. \nPresenter bio: \nYvonne McCall-Dickson has been a historian for over forty years and has spent many years studying the Cherokee\, learning the language\, researching historical documents\, and collecting artifacts. In 2004\, Yvonne was honored to participate in the Green Corn Ceremony in Robbinsville\, NC.\nYvonne collaborated with Archaeologist Scott Ashcraft in 2012 researching and conducting field work on the Cherokee surrounding Transylvania County\, NC. In 2013\, Scott and Yvonne co-authored a paper discussing the historical significance of the Cherokee around Courthouse Creek. Their work was instrumental in diverting the path of a logging operation in Transylvania County which would have disturbed sacred Cherokee ground\, and was honored by the Cherokee in October of that year at an archaeological conference.\nYvonne has been an Instructor at Blue Ridge Community College teaching Cherokee Heritage\, Transylvania County History\, and has authored the Images of America series book on Transylvania County.
