The Rowell Bosse North Carolina Room has a variety of resources available to aid in your family research. Our collection of reference books includes unpublished family histories, county heritage volumes, church histories, cemetery records, Revolutionary War Pension and NC Civil War Troops records, and high school and college annuals.
Local Family Files contain a variety of items, including newspaper clippings, photographs, family histories, and supporting documents. The depth of material varies greatly.
MJM Family Files contain family histories and supporting documents collected by local historian Mary Jane McCrary while researching her book, Transylvania Beginnings.
Ancestry is the world’s largest online family history and genealogy website. It is available on any of the Library’s computers or on laptops through the Library’s wi-fi connection. Remote access IS currently available courtesy of ProQuest and Ancestry. Click HERE for details and access.
Fold3 provides access to U.S. military records and a limited selection of non-military records. It is available remotely with a Transylvania County Library card in good standing.
African American Heritage provides key genealogical and historical records specific to tracing the lives of African Americans. It is available remotely with a Transylvania County Library card in good standing.
HeritageQuest contains census records, fully scanned family and local histories, Revolutionary War Era Pensions & Bounty Land Warrant Application Files, Freedman’s Bank records, and the U.S. Serial Set containing memorials, petitions and private relief actions of the U.S. Congress. It is available remotely with a Transylvania County Library card in good standing.
