In September 2024, Hurricane Helene brought devastating flooding to Western North Carolina, damaging roads, homes, and entire communities. Rising Above Helene: Western North Carolina’s Journey to Recovery looks at what happened next—how neighbors helped one another, how communities responded, and how recovery began in the months that followed.
The film highlights the role of residents, volunteers and local governments, showing how emergency response and long-term recovery efforts came together across the region. It was produced by 100 Strong Productions, a service of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with county employees who were closely involved in the response and recovery. Panelists will reflect on the challenges faced, lessons learned, and what recovery has meant for our region.
