POSTPONED: Losing the Corset, Winning the Vote & The Flapper Revolution

August 17 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Due to severe weather, this program has been postponed until further notice.  Please check back for updates!

Fashion historian and folklorist Cornelia Powell will present “Losing the Corset, Winning the Vote & the Flapper Revolution: How Fashion Re-Shaped the Modern Woman.”  Powell is a frequent keynote speaker at well-known venues including the prestigious Winterthur Museum in Delaware; the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina; at the Goodwood Museum in Tallahassee, Florida and many other venues around the country. The presentation will incorporate vintage photographs, quotes, and stories that illustrate the evolving story of women’s fashion before and after women got the vote.  Cornelia Powell served as an associate fashion editor at Vogue magazine and for many years was a member of the Costume Society of America’s Board of Directors. After 30 years in Atlanta, Cornelia moved to the Western North Carolina Mountains in 2008.  The program will begin at 12 noon in the Rogow Room at the Library.

The presentation is made possible by the Friends of the Library.  Proceeds from Friends’ memberships and from book sales help enhance and support library services by underwriting interesting and entertaining events for all ages.  Won’t you be a Friend?
