DuPont Forest: A History
October 19 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Author and avid hiker Danny Bernstein will present a program showcasing information from her new book – DuPont Forest: A History.
How did an industrial site become a forest attracting hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers from all over the United States? The story involves Southern Appalachian grit and self-reliance, a multinational company’s generosity, the tenacity of local heroes, and a forest protecting thousands of acres of trees, five lakes, six waterfalls and miles of trails. DuPont Forest also has many artifacts that were created before the land became a state forest. DuPont Forest is young, and its future is still unfolding in the news, maps, and trails. We will discuss the history of DuPont Forest from its Revolutionary War land grant past to the wonderful forest we now enjoy. Highland Books will be on hand with copies of the book for sale and signing.
