Bag Lunch Arts – B.A.C.H. – A Magical Mystery Tour

Author and scholar Pam Blevins will present B.A.C.H. – A Musical Mystery Tour.

B.A.C.H. – it’s not who you think!  In her presentation, music historian Pamela Blevins will introduce four composers from the 19th and 20th centuries whose last names begin with B, A, C, & H.  Their names will remain a mystery until she reveals who they are in her illustrated musical mystery tour.
          Dare to join her for a journey into the wider world of classical music that exists beyond popular mainstream composers (Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, etc.). Thousands of composers have created and continue to create some of the most beautiful, powerful, moving and accessible music ever written. Yet much of this music is rarely, if ever, heard in the concert hall and the time has come to change that.  Blevin’s B.A.C.H. Tour will challenge your perceptions of “modern” or “new” classical music and the men and women who compose it.
          Brevard resident Pamela Blevins is the co-founder and editor of Signature: Women in Music an online magazine about women in classical music. She is the author of Ivor Gurney and Marion Scott: Song of Pain and Beauty, a dual biography of these significant English musicians and writers. Her book Beyond the Hand of God is soon to be published. It is the first of three non-fiction books about murders in the town of Weymouth, Massachusetts, where she was the award-winning editor of the local newspaper.

Our monthly Bag Lunch Arts Series spotlights authors, artists, performers, and speakers sharing their talent and knowledge. Held on the third Tuesday of most months at 12 noon in the Rogow Family Community Room. Patrons are encouraged to bring along a bag lunch to enjoy before the program. Cookies and coffee are courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Programs last approximately one hour.
