Youth Summer Reading Programs Begin

June 15

Summer Reading Program registration for youth begins on June 15th and ends August 15th. This year’s theme is Imagine Your Story! Pick up your reading log and begin reading all through the summer to earn great prizes! We have three youth programs to choose from: Infant & Toddler (birth-2 years), Kids (3 years-5th grade), and Teens (grades 6-12).

How It Works:

  • Come to the library (or bookmobile if in operation) to pick up a reading/literacy log on or after June 15th. Reading logs can also be requested to be mailed or emailed.
  • Every day, complete 20 minutes of reading (or for babies, one early literacy activity) and mark off one circle on the log.
  • Bring your log back to the library (or bookmobile) and collect your prizes.
  • It’s FREE to participate!
  • Grand prize drawings will be on Monday, August 17th.

Early Literacy Program For Children Ages Birth to 2 years and their Caregivers

Research shows that talking, singing, reading, writing, counting, and playing with your young child jump-starts your child’s communication and pre-reading skills. Complete fun activities from the log like dancing, walk & talks, and pretend play to earn prizes.

  • Receive some bubbles when picking up your early literacy log
  • Complete 10 days of activities to receive a free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing
  • Complete 20 days of activities to receive another free book and entry into a grand prize drawing

The grand prize drawing will be for a LEGO Duplo set.

Kids Summer Reading Program (3 years to 5th grade)

Kids who engage in reading over the summer are more likely to retain their academic skills and avoid the “summer slide.” Pre-readers can count time that someone reads to them for at least 20 minutes each day.

  • Receive a bookmark and a sticker when picking up your reading log
  • Complete 20 days of reading to receive a free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing
  • Complete 40 days of reading to receive a free book, an entry into a grand prize drawing, and a certificate of completion

The grand prize drawings will be for a LEGO set, a magnetic marble run set, a Spirograph, and a ukulele & tuner.

Teen Summer Reading Program (grades 6 to 12)

Teens who engage in reading over the summer are more likely to retain their academic skills and avoid the “summer slide.”

  • Receive a bookmark when picking up your reading log
  • Complete 20 days of reading to receive a free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing
  • Complete 40 days of reading to receive a free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing

The grand prize drawings will be for a Kindle Fire 7 (16 GB) and a Kindle Fire HD 8 (32 GB).
