The Noontime Notions series continues on June 18th with Ashley Hobbs, a bear biologist from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, presenting “Are you Bear-Wise?”. The program will begin at noon in the Rogow Room at the Transylvania County Library.
Bear biologist Ashley Hobbs will discuss the natural history of black bears in western North Carolina and how you can safely coexist with these North Carolina treasures. She will share information about bear behavior, biology and what to do in a bear encounter, as well as provide an introduction to the BearWise initiative. BearWise provides ways to prevent conflicts, resources to resolve problems and encourages community initiatives to keep bears wild. Hobbs is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Forestry Resources. At the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, she is responsible for the management of human-wildlife interactions in Buncombe County and the implementation of North Carolina’s BearWise Program statewide.
Noontime Notions programs feature authors, performers, and presenters providing engaging notions for consideration, enjoyment, and discovery. The program is made possible by the Friends of the Library and will last approximately one hour.
