SUMMARY:Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Join us for yoga at the Library!\nClass starts at 9:30 am\, and instructor Clare Desmelik leads the series. Class will take place in the library amphitheater April through November.  We’ll move inside to the Rogow Room during the colder months from December – March. There are no rain dates\, but the porch might be an alternate location for gentle rain.  Yoga is an ancient practice that uses a series of seated and standing body poses held with a focus on the breath and the inner experience.  Yoga is a great mood booster and increases flexibility of mind and body. Everyone is welcome!  This class is free and open to all ages and experiences levels.  Pop in for a single class or attend them all. \nBring a yoga mat or towel and water\, and be sure to dress in layers!\nClare Desmelik has been practicing yoga since the early 2000’s and believes it to be a saving grace. She trusts in the power of taking a deep breath\, as well as taking some ‘time in’ to notice and find awareness in the body.  She feels that anyone’s emotional\, physical\, or mental health will benefit from a gentle yoga practice.  It helps reclaim your sense of calm and quiets the mind; it helps you find freedom and courage in your heart; and it allows you to feel strength and poise in your capable body. She has been enjoying teaching yoga in the Brevard and Asheville area since 2016.  She brings an approachable and revitalizing ‘go with the flow’ vibe to her classes\, which are suitable for any and all!   Clare is also the Spanish and Yoga teacher at Mountain Sun Community School\, a full-time advocate for childhood cancer and pediatric brain tumor awareness\, a grateful mom of two awesome boys\, and is often seen with her golden retrievers. She is authentically convinced that ‘Love Heals’ and yoga is all about love.

SUMMARY:Rising Above Helene: Film Screening & Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:In September 2024\, Hurricane Helene brought devastating flooding to Western North Carolina\, damaging roads\, homes\, and entire communities. Rising Above Helene: Western North Carolina’s Journey to Recovery looks at what happened next—how neighbors helped one another\, how communities responded\, and how recovery began in the months that followed. \nThe film highlights the role of residents\, volunteers and local governments\, showing how emergency response and long-term recovery efforts came together across the region. It was produced by 100 Strong Productions\, a service of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners. \nThe screening will be followed by a panel discussion with county employees who were closely involved in the response and recovery. Panelists will reflect on the challenges faced\, lessons learned\, and what recovery has meant for our region.

SUMMARY:Cookbook Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this month’s Cookbook Club!\nEach month we look at cookbooks\, do a little cooking\, and meet to talk about our experiences. \nFor February’s meeting\, we’ll cook from Tiffy Cooks: 88 Easy Asian Recipes from My Family to Yours by Tiffy Chen. Tiffy Chen started blogging about food and recipes after learning to cook from her mother and grandmother. In her debut cookbook\, Tiffy shares memories and recipes shaped by growing up in Taiwan – a country with rich culture\, diverse cuisines\, and some of the best street food in the world – along with beloved family recipes and unique dishes inspired by here travels across Southeast Asia. \nRegistered participants can stop by the library to review the book and choose a recipe to make and share with the other participants. We’ll taste each other’s culinary creations\, talk about the cookbook\, share what we learned and swap recipes. \n \n
