SUMMARY:Literary Pumpkins
DESCRIPTION:All Ages! Decorate your literary pumpkin at home and bring it to the Library to be on display! \nLiterary Pumpkin Decorating Guidelines: \nYour pumpkin can look like your favorite book character or resemble a literary theme from a book\, such as your favorite scene or quote. Get creative! \nPumpkins can be real or faux. If using a real pumpkin – carved\, cut\, or pierced pumpkins will NOT be accepted or will be discarded. Pumpkins must be decorated without carving\, cutting\, or poking holes. Include a plate or tray to catch any drips. \nFor decorating\, acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Spray paint can lead to rotten pumpkins. Yarn\, construction paper\, cloth\, wigs\, tape\, paste\, or glue can be used. \nPumpkins will be on display in the Library October 17-27. The first day to drop off pumpkins is Monday\, October 17. The last day to drop off pumpkins is Thursday\, October 27. Visit the Youth Services desk to get your name card. \nAll participants will be entered into a drawing for a $25 VISA gift card! \nAll pumpkins must be picked up by Wednesday\, November 2. \nFor more information\, call the Youth Services desk at 828-884-3151 ext. 3 or email youth.services@transylvaniacounty.org.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a FREE day of water fun! We are setting up our very own Transylvania water park at Transylvania County Parks & Recreation. Bring your family and friends to enjoy the summer sun while cooling down in style. We’ll have water games and activities\, balloon artists\, face painters\, music by DJ Dogg and food (additional cost). \nWear clothes and shoes that can get wet and bring a towel. Don’t forget the sunscreen\, lawn chair or blanket! \nThis event is a collaboration between the Transylvania County Library\, Transylvania County Parks & Recreation\, and The Family Place. \nThe fun will happen rain or shine! \n \n

Hobey tells the story without words\, performing his own hand crafted foam puppets in full view of the audience to the enchanting hang drum music of David Kuckhermann. Following in the style of his classic non-verbal production of “Animalia\,” SEA SONG will inspire and delight the audience with the story of the animals that live in the environment where the land meets the sea\, where sea turtles\, herons\, gulls and terns all come to life in the hands of master puppeteer Hobey Ford. \n  \n
