SUMMARY:Youth Summer Reading Programs Begin
DESCRIPTION:Summer Reading Program registration for youth begins on June 6th and ends August 21st. Come to the Library to pick up your reading log and begin reading all through the summer to earn great prizes! We have three youth programs to choose from: Babies (birth-2 years)\, Kids (3 years-5th grade)\, and Teens (grades 6-12).\nHow It Works: \n\nYou must come to the library or bookmobile to pick up a reading/literacy log on or after June 6th.\nEvery day\, complete 20 minutes of reading (or for babies\, one early literacy activity and read to your child at least 10 minutes per day).\nBring your log back to the library or bookmobile and collect your prizes.\nIt’s FREE to participate.\n\nAnd don’t forget about all of the great programs and activities we have for babies\, kids\, and teens this summer!\nFor printable calendars of all June/July events for kids and families click here.  \nPlease click here for a printable calendar of June/July/August teen events. \nFor complete details of all the Library’s programs\, visit our online events calendar. \n\nEarly Literacy Program For Children Ages Birth to 2 years and their Caregivers\nResearch shows that talking\, singing\, reading\, writing\, and playing with your young child jump-starts your child’s communication and pre-reading skills. \nLiteracy Activities \nDo fun activities from the back of the literacy log like scribbling\, dancing\, walk & talks\, and pretend play to earn prizes. \nEarn Prizes for reading & completing literacy activities with your child \n5 activities +   5 days of reading = bubbles \n10 activities + 10 days of reading= squeaky ball \n15 activities + 15 days of reading= puzzle \n20 activities + 20 days of reading= brand new board book \n  \nKids Summer Reading Program (3 years to 5th grade)\nKids who engage in reading over the summer are more likely to retain their academic skills and avoid the “summer slide.” Pre-readers can count time that someone reads to them for at least 20 minutes each day. \nYou’ll earn a prize for every 7 days of reading: \nFirst 7 Days of reading: bookmark & sticker \n14 Days of reading: pencil \n21 Days of reading: folder \n28 Days of reading: We take your photo and put it on your “rocket” on a display board at the Library \n35 Days of reading: Choose a brand new paperback book to keep \n42 Days of reading: Choose a brand new paperback book to keep \n49 Days of reading: We print your name in an Honorary Library Book! \n  \nTeen Summer Reading Program (grades 6 to 12)\nTeens who engage in reading over the summer are more likely to retain their academic skills and avoid the “summer slide.” \nYou can start earning prizes after 7 days of reading: \nFor every 7 days of reading you get an entry into our end-of-summer drawing for a new Kindle Fire HD 8 (32 GB)! \n7 Days — one entry in drawing & bookmark \n14 Days — one entry in drawing \n21 Days — one entry in drawing \n28 Days — one entry in drawing \n35 Days — one entry in drawing & your choice of a new paperback book \n42 Days — one entry in drawing & your choice of a new paperback book \n49 Days — one entry in drawing & your choice of a new paperback book
