We read a variety of genres and look forward to lively discussions every other month. You don’t have to commit to reading all the book selections – just the ones that interest you. DESCRIPTION:Good Morning Yoga\nmeets on Fridays @ 10 am\, June 11—July 30th outside in the Amphitheater.  (There are no alternate locations or dates for rainy days.)  It is designed for people of all ages\, experience levels\, and movement abilities.  Families and seniors are welcome!  Yoga can help you: \n\nEase Stress\nIncrease Flexibility\, Strength & Joy\n\nYou can try out a single class or attend all 8.  Registration is optional. \n~Please bring a Yoga Mat/Props or just a big Towel.~ \nThe class will be taught by Katie Flanagan from Brevard Yoga.  Katie is excited to welcome all humans and bodies to join her classes each week. She feels a strong desire to offer classes that most anyone can step into and not feel intimated or as though they “shouldn’t be there”. Through teaching slow\, gentle (though not always easy)\, & intentional classes\, Katie hopes to create a space where her students can have a more deliberate conversation with their bodies\, therefore feeling more connected with their bodies when they take their practice back out into the world. Katie comes to teaching yoga with 20 years of personal practice and has been teaching throughout Brevard for the past 3 years. She is a small business owner here in town\, heading up Green Heart Juice for the past 7+ years & you can find her at Transylvania Farmers Market Saturday mornings. She loves living the small town life and getting her pups out into the forest whenever possible\, with the occasional travel adventure often always in the making & cup of hot tea with dear friends. \nThis FREE program is made possible by the Friends of the Library.

DESCRIPTION:The Ukulele Circle is held from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Library Rogow Community Room every second Thursday of each month*. Beginner Basics from 5:30 – 6:00 is a quick overview for the complete novice before the following Ukulele Circle. This intergenerational program is open to all ages. Adult supervision required for 12 and under. “The CDC recommends that people who are not vaccinated wear masks and maintain social distance.” \nDates & Themes \nMonthly themes/songs are chosen by staff with song print-outs available in advance at the Library: \nJuly 8\, 2021: The ’80s\nAugust 12\, 2021: Country/Americana\nSeptember 9\, 2021: The ’90s & ’00s\n*October 21\, 2021: Soul/Motown        *Third Thursday due to FOL Booksale*\n*November 18\, 2021: The Beatles      *Third Thursday due to Veteran’s Day closing*\nDecember 9\, 2021: Holiday \nUkuleles to Borrow \nBring your own\, or check out one of the Library’s lendable ukulele kits. Each ukulele kit includes an instrument\, case\, electronic tuner\, and instructional book. \nLibrary ukes include soprano\, pineapple\, concert\, and tenor sizes. All ukuleles are in the same standard tuning\, but have different tones based on size. Anyone is welcome to borrow any size\, though those with petite hands may find the soprano and pineapple sizes more comfortable and those with larger hands may find the concert and tenor sizes more comfortable. For more details about ukuleles\, such as to see photos or learn about specifications\, or how to borrow or put a hold on a kit\, stop by the library and ask a staff member. \nBeginner Basics \nUnlike lessons\, the beginner basics is a quick overview of tuning\, chord fingering\, how to read a chord chart\, strumming\, and rhythm. This will help the inexperienced player to feel more comfortable in the Ukulele Circle that follows. \nUkulele Circle \nThe hour-long music session is structured according to a theme\, with songs pre-selected by staff members. Songs are selected based on copyright availability\, as well as their popularity and appropriateness for the inter-generational public library setting. Themes and dates are listed above\, and the next month’s song packet will be available one month in advance and at each session. Songs will also be projected on a screen during the session for ease of viewing. As they grow and develop\, their speech and language skills become increasingly more complex. During early speech and language development\, children learn skills that are important to the development of literacy (reading and writing). This stage\, known as emergent literacy\, begins at birth and continues through the preschool years. \nFrom birth\, babies listen to language patterns in everyday speech\, as well as in rhyming\, chanting\, and singing – all of these play an important part in literacy development. As they develop\, children see and interact with print in everyday situations. In everything from books and magazines to grocery lists\, whether at home or in preschool\, they are (and should be) encountering language in print well before they start elementary school. \nParents can see their child’s growing appreciation and enjoyment of print as they begin to recognize words that rhyme\, scribble with crayons\, point out street signs and symbols\, and name some letters of the alphabet. Gradually\, children combine what they know about speaking and listening with what they know about print and become ready to learn to read and write. \nThat’s what storytime at the library is all about!

In everything from books and magazines to grocery lists\, whether at home or in preschool\, they are (and should be) encountering language in print well before they start elementary school. \nParents can see their child’s growing appreciation and enjoyment of print as they begin to recognize words that rhyme\, scribble with crayons\, point out street signs and symbols\, and name some letters of the alphabet. Gradually\, children combine what they know about speaking and listening with what they know about print and become ready to learn to read and write. \nThat’s what storytime at the library is all about!

DESCRIPTION:Good Morning Yoga\nmeets on Fridays @ 10 am\, June 11—July 30th outside in the Amphitheater.  (There are no alternate locations or dates for rainy days.)  It is designed for people of all ages\, experience levels\, and movement abilities.  Families and seniors are welcome!  Yoga can help you: \n\nEase Stress\nIncrease Flexibility\, Strength & Joy\n\nYou can try out a single class or attend all 8.  Registration is optional. \n~Please bring a Yoga Mat/Props or just a big Towel.~ \nThe class will be taught by Katie Flanagan from Brevard Yoga.  Katie is excited to welcome all humans and bodies to join her classes each week. She feels a strong desire to offer classes that most anyone can step into and not feel intimated or as though they “shouldn’t be there”. Through teaching slow\, gentle (though not always easy)\, & intentional classes\, Katie hopes to create a space where her students can have a more deliberate conversation with their bodies\, therefore feeling more connected with their bodies when they take their practice back out into the world. Katie comes to teaching yoga with 20 years of personal practice and has been teaching throughout Brevard for the past 3 years. She is a small business owner here in town\, heading up Green Heart Juice for the past 7+ years & you can find her at Transylvania Farmers Market Saturday mornings. She loves living the small town life and getting her pups out into the forest whenever possible\, with the occasional travel adventure often always in the making & cup of hot tea with dear friends. \nThis FREE program is made possible by the Friends of the Library.

We realize that there will be some individual variance and we ask that you pay attention to your child’s signals to know what they are ready for\, or ask us if you are not sure. \n\nMore About Early and Emergent Literacy \nBabies\, toddlers\, preschoolers\, in all stages of development with their parents and caregivers are welcome to our morning of celebration. Children start to learn language from the day they are born. As they grow and develop\, their speech and language skills become increasingly more complex. During early speech and language development\, children learn skills that are important to the development of literacy (reading and writing). This stage\, known as emergent literacy\, begins at birth and continues through the preschool years. \nFrom birth\, babies listen to language patterns in everyday speech\, as well as in rhyming\, chanting\, and singing – all of these play an important part in literacy development.
