SUMMARY:Wildlife in Transylvania County
DESCRIPTION:The Transylvania County Library in collaboration with Friends of DuPont Forest is presenting five programs on the diverse animal species living in our backyards and the forests around us on Thursday evenings in January and February.  Each presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.January 19—The Mammals of Transylvania County.  DuPont State Recreational Forest is home to 42 small mammals and 14 large mammals.  Learn more about all these creatures from pygmy shrews to black bears.\nJanuary 26—The Salamanders of Transylvania County.  This presentation features some of the 50 species of salamander in the mountains of Western North Carolina\, particularly the endangered green salamander found in Transylvania County.\nFebruary 2 — NO PROGRAM.\nFebruary 9—Use of Game Cameras to Photograph Wildlife.  Learn how to use game cameras to capture images of wildlife activity during the day and at night.\nFebruary 16—The Snakes of Transylvania County.  A variety of snakes\, including venomous rattlesnakes and copperheads will be discussed.\nFebruary 23—The Listed Animal Species of Transylvania County. The final program will focus on species living in DuPont State Recreational Forest listed as threatened or endangered on the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commissions watch list. \nPresenter Alan Cameron is a 12-year volunteer with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission\, a member of Friends of DuPont Forest\, and a retired intelligence analyst with the National Security Agency.   If Transylvania County offices are closed due to inclement weather the presentation will be rescheduled.  Please contact the Transylvania County Library at 828-884-3151 for additional information.  These programs are free and open to the public thanks to support by the Friends of the Library.
