SUMMARY:Ukulele Circle
DESCRIPTION:The Ukulele Circle is held from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Library Rogow Community Room every second Thursday of each month*. Beginner Basics from 5:30 – 6:00 is a quick overview for the complete novice before the following Ukulele Circle. This intergenerational program is open to all ages. Adult supervision required for 12 and under. “The CDC recommends that people who are not vaccinated wear masks and maintain social distance.” \nDates & Themes \nMonthly themes/songs are chosen by staff with song print-outs available in advance at the Library: \nJuly 8\, 2021: The ’80s\nAugust 12\, 2021: Country/Americana\nSeptember 9\, 2021: The ’90s & ’00s\n*October 21\, 2021: Soul/Motown        *Third Thursday due to FOL Booksale*\n*November 18\, 2021: The Beatles      *Third Thursday due to Veteran’s Day closing*\nDecember 9\, 2021: Holiday \nUkuleles to Borrow \nBring your own\, or check out one of the Library’s lendable ukulele kits. Each ukulele kit includes an instrument\, case\, electronic tuner\, and instructional book. \nLibrary ukes include soprano\, pineapple\, concert\, and tenor sizes. All ukuleles are in the same standard tuning\, but have different tones based on size. Anyone is welcome to borrow any size\, though those with petite hands may find the soprano and pineapple sizes more comfortable and those with larger hands may find the concert and tenor sizes more comfortable. For more details about ukuleles\, such as to see photos or learn about specifications\, or how to borrow or put a hold on a kit\, stop by the library and ask a staff member. \nBeginner Basics \nUnlike lessons\, the beginner basics is a quick overview of tuning\, chord fingering\, how to read a chord chart\, strumming\, and rhythm. This will help the inexperienced player to feel more comfortable in the Ukulele Circle that follows. \nUkulele Circle \nThe hour-long music session is structured according to a theme\, with songs pre-selected by staff members. Songs are selected based on copyright availability\, as well as their popularity and appropriateness for the inter-generational public library setting. Themes and dates are listed above\, and the next month’s song packet will be available one month in advance and at each session. Songs will also be projected on a screen during the session for ease of viewing.
