SUMMARY:Summer Reading Program Begins for All Ages
DESCRIPTION:Summer Reading Program registration for all ages begins on Monday\, June 8\, 2026. This year’s theme is “Unearth a Story”. Read all through the summer to earn great prizes! We have four free programs to choose from: Early Literacy (birth-2 years)\, Kids (3 years – 5th grade)\, Teens (grades 6-12) and Adults. \nThe programs will conclude on Saturday\, August 8\, 2026. This is the last day to get Youth prizes and the last day to submit Adult entries. Grand Prize drawings for all age groups will take place on Monday\, August 10\, 2026. \nAdult Program – How It Works\n\nAdult participants can call\, come by the Circulation Desk or go online to register.\nRead or listen to 5 books during the summer reading dates and complete an entry card by phone\, in person or online for a chance to win.\nWeekly and grand prizes include gift certificates to Second Story Book Store and local eateries\, as well as other surprises.\nAdult readers can complete as many entry cards as they wish over the summer and submit them by Saturday\, August 8.\nFull details are available at registration.\nAdults click the following links to Register or to Submit an Entry for every 5 books read between June 8 and August 8. (Links will be active on June 8.)\n\n\nYouth Programs – How It Works\n\nCome to the library (or bookmobile) to pick up a reading/literacy log on or after June 8.\nEvery day complete 20 minutes of reading (or for babies\, one early literacy activity) and mark off one circle on the log.\nBring your log back to the library (or bookmobile) and collect your prizes. All finishers have the option of adding their name to our finisher wall.\n\nEarly Literacy Program (children ages birth to 2 years and their caregivers)\nResearch shows that talking\, singing\, reading\, writing\, counting\, and playing with your young child jump-starts your child’s communication and pre-reading skills. Complete fun activities from the log like dancing\, walk & talks\, and pretend play to earn prizes. \n\nReceive bubbles when picking up your early literacy log\nComplete 10 days of activities to receive a free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing\nComplete 20 days of activities to receive another free book and entry into a grand prize drawing\n\nThe grand prize drawing will be for a Dinosaur Play Bundle including Melissa & Doug Blockables Dinosaur Snap and Play AND PicassoTiles Magnet Tiles Building Blocks Dinosaur Theme Set. \nKids Summer Reading Program (3 years to 5th grade)\nHave fun reading this summer and earn prizes along the way! Pre-readers can count time that someone reads to them for at least 20 minutes each day. \n\nComplete 20 days of reading to receive a bookmark\, free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing\nComplete 40 days of reading to receive a temporary tattoo\, free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing\n\nThe grand prize drawings will be for a National Geographic Dinosaur Bundle including a Dino Fossil Dig Kit & Dino Records Book and Light Up Terrarium Kit – Dinosaur Habitat\, LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Building Set (T. Rex\, Triceratops\, Pterodactyl)\, National Geographic Marble Run with Motorized Spiral Elevator\, and two $50 OP Taylor gift cards. \nTeen Summer Reading Program (grades 6 to 12)\nHave fun reading this summer and earn prizes along the way! \n\nComplete 20 days of reading to receive a bookmark\, free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing\nComplete 40 days of reading to receive a dino duckie\, free book and an entry into a grand prize drawing\n\nThere will be two grand prize drawings for a $50 VISA gift card.
