SUMMARY:Noontime Notions - How Should We Live?
DESCRIPTION:Philosophers have debated the question of the best moral life for human beings for centuries.  Should we act so as to create the best results?  Is it our intentions\, rather than the results\, that matter?  Or is it the state of our character that determines a good life?  This talk will canvas the different answers that philosophers have given to the question of how we should live\, offering both their views and some of the challenges to those views.  After the presentation\, there will be time for questions and discussion. \nTodd May teaches philosophy at Warren Wilson college.  He has been teaching for over three decades and is the author of seventeen books of philosophy.  These books address issues such as what makes a life meaningful\, how we cope with suffering\, what a decent life might look like\, what it is to care\, and how we face death.  He was also philosophical advisor to the hit television series The Good Place\, and advised showrunner Mike Schur on his follow-up book How to Be Perfect:  The Correct Answer to Every Moral Question.
