SUMMARY:National Library Week 2017
DESCRIPTION:National Library Week 2017 Celebration. Author Taylor Brown.   During the program we will honor our 2016 volunteers and have an array of refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library.\n“The River of Kings:  a Search for the Apalatci Mountains” will spotlight the story behind his recent novel\, The River of Kings\, which braids together a contemporary narrative of two brothers delivering their father’s ashes down the mighty Altamaha River\, known as Georgia’s “Little Amazon\,” with the historical story of the French colonists at Fort Caroline\, the first fortified European settlement in the modern-day United States.  He will discuss the radical lengths taken by the early French explorers to find the “Apalatci Mountains” — Appalachian — and share the work of Jacques Le Moyne\, the first European artist in the New World\, whose illustrations appear throughout the novel. \nTaylor Brown is the author of a short story collection\, In the Season of Blood and Gold (Press 53\, 2014)\, as well as the bestselling novels Fallen Land (St. Martin’s Press\, 2016) and The River of Kings (St. Martin’s Press\, 2017). Born on the Georgia coast\, Brown has lived in Buenos Aires\, San Francisco\, Asheville\, and currently resides in Wilmington\, NC. You can find his work in The Rumpus\, Garden & Gun\, the North Carolina Literary Review\, and many other publications. He is a recipient of the Montana Prize in Fiction and the founder of BikeBound.com.  \nAdditional programs for National Library Week 2017 include a Bag Lunch EXTRA on Tuesday\, April 11th  at 12 noon and a Lincoln Center Local Broadcast on Wednesday\, April 12th at 12 noon.  JOIN US!
