SUMMARY:Artistic Afternoons in April
DESCRIPTION:The Transylvania County Library is offering an exploration of the arts with local artists in the month of April. The programs are free\, but registration is required for each program. Call us at 884-3151 ext. 3 or stop by the youth services desk to sign up NOW as space is limited!\nTuesday April 4\, 2017 – 4pm-5:15pm – Instrument Discovery with JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians of Transylvania County) (ages 7-10) \nBradford Carson\, instructor for JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians of Transylvania County)\, will give an introduction to multiple stringed instruments like the fiddle\, mandolin\, and more! After learning about each instrument\, participants will have a chance to try each out for themselves. A perfect program for the budding musician. \nTuesday April 11\, 2017 – 4pm-5:30pm – Introduction to Pottery Making with Nick Friedman of Duckpond Pottery (ages 11-14) \nParticipants in this workshop will work on a clay slab project. They will receive an introduction to textures and stamps and will work both inside and outside (weather permitting). Pieces will be later pit fired by the instructor and be available for pick up at the Library. Local and organic materials will be used for this project. \nTuesday April 18\, 2016 – 4pm-5:15pm – ART Takes Wing! Drawing Birds with Pastel Chalks with Deborah Kidwell of ART Works (ages 7-10) \nCome\, look\, and see carefully. Sketch the shapes and find what parts of your bird are darker and lighter. Then add brilliant colors\, layer upon layer on special marble dust paper. Take your work home matted and framed! \nTuesday April 25\, 2016 – 4pm-5:30pm – Blending Science and Art with Plants and Plant Cells with Photographer Terry Ashley (ages 11-14) \nLearn about a type of photography image called “Botanical Chords” that is a combination of micro- and macro- photography of plants. Have some fun learning about and trying out concepts with this intricate skill combining art and science!
