DESCRIPTION:“National Register of Historic Places”\nThursday\, March 6\n6-7 pm\nRogow Room \nThe National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s official list of buildings\, structures\, objects\, sites\, and districts worthy of preservation for their significance in American history\, architecture\, archaeology\, and culture. How are properties identified as good candidates for the program? What does the listing process entail? What are the benefits of National Register listing for property owners? This presentation will cover the basics of the National Register program. \nHannah Beckman-Black is the Preservation Specialist at the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)\, based in the Western Regional Office in Asheville. Hannah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Historic Preservation from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg\, Virginia and has over 8 years of experience working at the SHPO\, assisting North Carolina constituents in navigating the National Register listing process. \nAll Things Appalachia is a monthly program series at the Transylvania County Library exploring the people\, natural world\, culture\, and history of the southern Appalachian region.  Presenters include experts in the fields of history\, ecology\, outdoor recreation\, and more.   The programs are on the first Thursday evening of most months at 6 pm in the Rogow Room.  Each program lasts approximately one hour. These free programs are supported by the Friends of the Library.
