Bag Lunch Arts Program @ Rogow Room, Transylvania County Library | Brevard | North Carolina | United States

The Hidden History of Mayberry presented by Dr. Gary Freeze.

Catawba College professor Gary Freeze will discuss his theories on the conceptual premise of “The Andy Griffith Show,” which debuted in 1960.  Borrowing from his North Carolina history class at Catawba College, he will use key episodes to explain how Andy Griffith himself helps the state’s residents understand their heritage and history.  The noted history professor will give new depth and clarity to one of the state’s cultural treasures.  A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Freeze has taught history at Catawba College for 20 years and has won numerous teaching awards for his depth of knowledge and engaging presentations.  He is also active in state history circles.
