About
Email
Email is one of the most popular parts of the Internet. The Transylvania
County Library does not offer email accounts, however, if you are able
to set an account up yourself, there are Web-based services that offer
free email accounts. Library staff is not able to assist you with account
set up. Set up usually involves filling out a survey. Each company offering
this service should provide adequate instructions. Because of heavy use
at the email servers, these free accounts experience frequent problems.
The Library staff is not trained to troubleshoot these problems. The email
account enables you to send and receive email messages, however some web
businesses and institutions do not recognize free web-based account users.
Be prepared to spend 20-40 minutes to acquire the account.
For patrons who already have an email account that requires proprietary
software (such as AOL, Juno, or Bellsouth), check with your email provider
to find out if they have a web-based option. Only web-based email access
is available on the Library's Internet terminals. AOL does have a web-based
option called AOL Netmail.
