        The Friends of the Transylvania County Library (FRIENDS) were established in 1957 with the purpose to maintain an association of persons interested in the Transylvania County Library. The FRIENDS adopted as their mission to enhance and support library services by underwriting programs and events, publishing a monthly newsletter and making special purchases to enhance library services.

        The elected officers of the FRIENDS consist of the president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. The elected officers, the immediate past-president, the Historian, the Library Director, the Adult Services Librarian, and the chairman of each standing committee constitute the Board of Directors and manage the affairs of the association. The members of the board for 2008-2010 are as follows:

Financial resources are raised through the Book Room, the annual book sale, and membership contributions. Currently, there are more than 650 memberships.
